Dr Lydia Jahl
Dr. Lydia Jahl is senior scientist at the Green Science Policy Institute, an environmental non-profit institute of scientists who conduct research and communicate with decision-makers to protect people and the environment from harmful chemicals in everyday products. The Institute primarily focuses on classes of harmful chemicals, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), flame retardant chemicals, and antimicrobials.
Researchers at Green Science Policy Institute, University of Notre Dame, Indiana University, and University of Toronto confirmed previous research finding widespread PFAS in cosmetics. Notably, they discovered that PFAS were often present in cosmetics that did not contain any PFAS in the ingredients list. Since the publication of that research, Lydia has been collaborating with cosmetics manufacturers to help identify and remove PFAS from their products and discussing the importance of restricting PFAS in cosmetics with policymakers.
Lydia holds a PhD in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University.
