Mike Brouwer

Senior researcher, Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, Wageningen University

Mike Brouwer works as a molecular biologist at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, part of Wageningen University and Research. His research focusses on the trends of antimicrobial resistance over time in Dutch livestock. He is involved with the annual monitoring of antimicrobial resistance in livestock by the National Reference Laboratory at WBVR.

The JPIAMR funded project BIORESIST has started in 2025 and is coordinated by Mike Brouwer. This project will focus on occurrence of resistance against biocides, set-up phenotypical screening assays and studying co-occurrence with antimicrobial resistance. The project will examine the past and current usage of biocides, and how the reduction of antimicrobial usage may have resulted in an increased usage of biocides in the veterinary field.
