Dr Frank Thomas Lange
Dr. Lange is a chemist and senior researcher at TZW: DVGW-Technologiezentrum Wasser (TZW) (German Water Centre) in Karlsruhe. For more than 30 years, he has been working on and leading numerous analytically oriented national and international projects on various aspects of water quality and treatment, also including support for regulations regarding analytical methods for per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). He is particularly interested in research into the occurrence and environmental behavior of persistent and mobile organic trace contaminants (PFAS, aromatic sulfonates, pesticides and their metabolites, artificial sweeteners, polyether trisiloxane surfactants). Since 2010, his work has focused on method development and optimization as well as application of sum parameters for organofluorochemicals (adsorbable organically bound fluorine (AOF), extractable organically bound fluorine (EOF), total oxidizable precursors (TOP) assay). He has published numerous articles in scientific journals and also several book chapters on different classes of substances. Dr. Lange is co-editor of the book Polyfluorinated Chemicals and Transformation Products (Springer, 2012). He is a member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Water Chemistry Society and has been involved for many years in the standardization of analytical methods, e.g. for PFAS determination in water and soil and for the determination of AOF.
