Justin Rewerts
Dr. Justin Rewerts received his PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from Oregon State University in 2020. His work focused on the environmental fate and transport of PFAS, with particular focus on PFAS in consumer products. After obtaining his PhD, he spent two years at the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration where he worked to characterize and distinguish PFAS-based coatings for use on paper-based food contact materials.
He came to the Department of Ecology in October of 2022 as a Chemist supporting the Safer Products for Washington team within the Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction (HWTR) program. He is currently acting supervisor for the Reducing Toxic Threats unit within HWTR, continuing to support the Safer Products team to reduce the use of toxic chemicals in consumer products and promote safer, feasible, and available alternative chemistries.
