Joseph Manuppello
Currently, Joseph Manuppello advocates for reducing the use of animals in regulatory testing with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and previously with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. In 2006, he began proposing animal reduction measures for High Production Volume Challenge Program test plans, publishing a retrospective analysis of animal use in 2012. In 2018, he documented a ten-fold increase in animal testing requests in the first year of the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act’s implementation and has since commented on proposed rules and joined legal challenges to ensure consideration of animal protection provisions. He also works to relace animal testing for pharmaceutical and tobacco products. His educational background is in molecular biology and genetics.
