Eeva Leinala
Within the OECD’s Chemicals Programme Eeva leads the Risk Reduction Programme, the Good Laboratory Practices and Mutual Acceptance of Data Programmes and the Chemical Accidents Programme.
Risk Reduction – Eeva collaborates with OECD countries and stakeholders to advance risk reduction of chemicals through both regulatory risk management and non-regulatory approaches. This includes projects related to risk management tools, sustainable chemistry, plastics, substitution/chemical selection, socioeconomic assessment and risk management & alternatives for PFAS.
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Mutual Acceptance of Data Programmes – Eeva leads OECD international collaboration and coordination of national compliance monitoring authorities for GLP. Test facility implementation of GLP ensures confidence in non-clinical laboratory studies and saves governments and industry more than 300 million Euro per year through Mutual Acceptance of Data.
Chemical Accidents – This work area, also led by Eeva, focuses on sharing experiences, best practice and developing policy options for enhancing the prevention of, preparedness for and response to chemical accidents.
Previously, Eeva led the Hazard Assessment Programme at the OECD.
Prior to the OECD, Eeva worked on chemical management at Health Canada (Ministry of Health) for 12 years, leaving the organization as a senior manager of the Assessment Methodology Divisions of the Existing Substances Risk Assessment Bureau implementing Canada’s Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). Her experience included designing policy and programme elements for chemicals management, development of new risk assessment methodologies, reviewing and conducting risk assessments, stakeholder engagement and leading diverse teams.
