PFAS Updates Europe 2025

Maristella Rubbiani holds a degree in Biology and a PhD in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene and she  brings four decades of experience in chemicals regulation, risk assessment, and EU policy. She spent 35 years at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Italy, where she headed the unit responsible for risk assessment of biocides and plant protection products, poison centres, and harmonized classification and labelling. 

She served on national and international expert bodies, including the Italian Committee for the authorisation of plant protection products and biocides and theCommittee for  implementation of the Sustainable Use Directive. At EU level, she was a member of the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). She also contributed for eight years to the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Management (JMPM) and to the OECD WG for biocides for ten years. She was also an inspector for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and contributed to several international capacity-building programmes, including TAIEX and Twinning projects.

Then she joined the European Commission as a Policy Officer in DG SANTE’s Pesticides and Biocides Unit, where she worked for 6 years.

She has joined Rud Pedersen Public Affairs as Senior Advisor.
