Olwenn Martin
Dr Olwenn Martin is Associate Professor in Health and Environment in UCL’s Arts and Sciences department, where she is also a member of the Anthropocene research group and Plastic Waste Innovation Hub. Building on an academic background in both Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Environmental Sciences) and Social Sciences (Environmental Decision Making, Development Management, Environmental Policy), Olwenn’s expertise lies in integrating and translating fundamental and observational scientific evidence into policy.
An early adopter of applying the principles of evidence-based medicine to environmental health and toxicology, including systematic review and meta-analysis and socio-economic analyses, Olwenn is also the associate editor of Evidence-based Toxicology, pioneering open peer review processes and promoting open science practices and the use of evidence-based methods in the toxicological and environmental health sciences.
Her research has focused on chemical pollution, and she has specialist expertise in endocrine disruption, plastic chemicals, and mixture effects. Current and recent projects include the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals, several projects supporting the European Environment Agency's work towards the European Zero Pollution Ambition, and consultancy work for the World Health Organization.
