Key changes for biocidal active substances and products from 1 January 2021
The UK left the European Union on 31 January 2020, and from 1 January 2021 the UK started to operate under its own version of the biocidal products Regulation (BPR). Companies making biocidal products available on the market or seeking to approve active substances or authorise biocidal products, need to be aware of any changes and the actions needed to ensure they can continue to trade in the country. The new biocides regime will apply to Great Britain – England, Scotland and Wales – but there is separate guidance for Northern Ireland-based businesses.
In this webinar, the head of operational policy at the HSE – the body overseeing the UK version of the (BPR) – explained which rules and processes will remain the same and which will change, and provided insights into the new requirements that business must know about and act on.
There was also a short industry presentation that looked at some of the questions and concerns that industry has about the new UK BPR system. While still coping with the upheaval of the coronavirus pandemic, suppliers of biocidal products and active substances now have to plan and respond quickly to the new regulatory requirements for biocides manufactured or sold in the UK.
