Charlotta Fred is Deputy Director General and the Head of the Chemicals Division at the Ministry of the Environment in Sweden. The responsibility includes i.e. chemicals, waste, circular economy, radiation and nuclear safety.

Charlotta has a background as PhD in Environmental Chemistry from Stockholm University and has been working within different areas of toxicology and risk assessment of chemicals and radiation, the last 12 years as manager for different groups. 

Prior to the position at the Ministry of the environment, Charlotta was section head at Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. The responsibility included regulation and oversight of discharges of radioactive compounds and radiological protection of workers at the Swedish nuclear facilities. Charlotta was during that time the Swedish representative in the Committee of Radiological Protection and Human Health at OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. 

Before that Charlotta was Head of Department of Genetic Toxicology, Safety Assessment, AstraZeneca Södertälje, Sweden. The work included standard and tailor maid project support in the safety evaluation of candidate drugs. Collaboration with other Pharmaceutical industries generated a wide circle of contacts and a cross-Pharma publication fundamental for the creation of a new ICH guideline for controlling potential genotoxic impurities in drug products.
