Ake Bergman

Senior Professor, Department of Environmental Science (ACES) , Stockholm University

Professor Bergman is a Senior Professor at Stockholm University. He has a broad interdisciplinary approach in his research with particular focus on organic environmental chemistry, i.e. on persistent bioaccumulative organic pollutants and endocrine disrupting chemicals. He has worked with chemical synthesis, stability/reactivity of chemicals, chemical analysis and kinetics of pollutants. He is a specialist in radiosynthesis of environmental pollutants and their metabolites. Bergman is an authority on brominated flame retardants, a research area he has been active in for more than 30 years. He has served on numerous national and international expert groups and review panels. He was the coordinator of the UNEP/WHO program panel for the state of the science of endocrine disruption 2012 and editor of the preceding State-of-the-science document, 2002. He is a Chair Researcher at Tongji University in Shanghai (China). He is also Guest Professor at Örebro University (Sweden). He has published some 500 original scientific articles, as well as contributed to several books, films and other activities related to media.
