The EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability: One Year On

Dr. Matthias Herzler is an analytical chemist and toxicologist with more than 15 years of practical experience in the human health risk assessment of pesticides, biocides, and industrial chemicals under EU legislation. He is currently heading the unit Coordination and Assessment Strategies in the Department of Chemical and Product Safety at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) in Berlin.

Dr. Herzler has been an active member of diverse EU, OECD, UN, and WHO working groups aiming at advancing regulatory chemical risk assessment science and practice. Recently, he co-authored the BfR’s guest editorial on the EU chemicals strategy for the journal Archives of Toxicology, titled „The ‚EU chemicals strategy for sustainability‘ questions regulatory toxicology as we know it: is it all rooted in sound scientific evidence?
