Marijke Schurmans
Marijke Schurmans is a member of the Board of Appeal at ECHA. She has been practicing EU environmental law for 23 years. She started her career in private practice at the Brussels Bar assisting ministerial cabinets on issues of public law, constitutional law, environmental law and climate law. Between 2008-2021 she worked in the private sector, where she held leadership positions at European and global level related to REACH, sustainability, environmental, climate and trade law. Although she spent most of her career in Brussels, she experienced several secondments to company offices in Singapore, Washington DC, London and Sheffield.
She has served for more than twenty years as a part-time academic researcher and/or a visiting professor at KU Leuven, University of Malta, Sustainability College Bruges and other academic institutions, specializing in EU environmental, chemicals, energy, climate and sustainability law.
Marijke holds a master degree in Law from KU Leuven (Belgium), Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 (France) and a master degree in International Relations at University of Cambridge (UK).
