Event overview

Day one of the Summit focuses on the rise of global chemicals regulations and their impact on business. The day starts with a keynote presentation from Achim Halpaap of UNEP which considers how we are moving forwards on sound management of chemicals globally. The expert speakers will then look at some new areas of regulation including those from Canada, Brazil, the EU Regulation on Conflict Minerals, the USA, Korea, South Africa and Turkey.

Following this, Session 2 looks at Innovation and REACH. It includes speakers from the EU Commission, ECHA, and CEFIC. The afternoon finishes with a panel session considering questions like ‘what effects global efforts to manage chemicals safely have in action on the ground’ and ‘what the most important values and achievements in chemicals safety are that we should hold onto in the context of global political change’.

The sessions on day two will take a closer look at supply chain issues. Following a keynote address from Frank Michel, Executive Director of ZDHC, the day focuses on different industry sectors and their specific supply chain issues. Sectors to be included:

  • Construction and building products
  • Textiles
  • Retailing
  • Children’s products

These presentations will also look at some cross-sectoral issues including the implications of Brexit for downstream companies, supply chain communication tools, conflict mineral regulation, upstream authorisation applications, nano regulation and implications of the recent ECJ ruling on the definition of an article under Reach.

Day three starts with a look at safer chemicals and the regulatory and voluntary drivers. This includes safer chemicals under REACH, the USA and California. The expert panel will then move on to consider the different tools and approaches to safer chemicals. This session includes case studies from innovation projects. The final session of the Summit focuses on substitution and substance awareness.
