She is a public health professional who has worked in the fields of sustainable chemistry, toxicology, and consumer products. She spent 23 years as the Chief Science Officer of NSF International, a public health and safety organization that develops standards and certification programs.

James has over 20 years of experience helping industry and the non-profit sector create more effective methods of managing chemicals in supply chains and designing products and systems that foster an economy based on the safe and circular flows of all materials. He currently is a Senior Manager for Scivera LLC which uses a software as a service model to help industry identify and assess the chemicals contained in the products they buy and sell.
