Mitchell Cheeseman is currently a Managing Director in Environmental and Life Sciences at Steptoe & Johnson LLP. Previously Mitchell served in FDA’s Foods Program managing the food ingredient and packaging programs including responsibility for direct food additives and food contact substances, color additives, Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) food ingredients, and bioengineered food.
He served as the Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Office of Food Additive Safety for over five years. At FDA he oversaw the review of over 100 food additive petitions, over 150 GRAS notices and over 1000 food contact notifications.
