April Neal-Kluever

Toxicologist, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

April Kluever has over seven years of experience as a regulatory toxicology reviewer at the US FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, where she performs premarket and postmarket safety assessments for food additives. She is the FDA-wide subject matter expert on infant lifestage-specific safety assessment for food contact materials and is consulted on topics related to postnatal developmental toxicity across FDA programmatic areas. April has served on international scientific groups for the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), World Health Organization (WHO), and the International Life Sciences Institute - Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (ILSI-HESI). Prior to joining FDA, her academic research focused on the developmental neurotoxicity of metals and pesticides (published under April Neal).

April received her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health with a specialization in Neurotoxicology and certification in Risk Sciences and Public Policy. She is board certified in general toxicology through the American Board of Toxicology.
