Recycled plastics for food contact in the US: An update
- Recycling of plastics for food contact is one of the most important and dynamic areas of sustainable packaging. In the last three decades, FDA has reviewed more than 300 voluntary submissions for plastics recycling processes, the majority of which were for PET.
- Most recently, an increasing number of submissions for polyolefins have been received and evaluated.
- The presentation will focus on FDA’s efforts at updating the current chemistry guidance for use of recycling plastics for food contact to incorporate information we have learned from PET and discuss new challenges presented by polyolefins.
