Food Packaging Manager, Bostik

Joseph (Joe) Spinnato is the Food Packaging Manager for Bostik.  His role is mainly focused on working with Product Development to design food packaging products (laminating adhesives and coatings) which will be safe and compliant for their intended use.  In this role, Joe develops protocols for migration testing.  Additionally, he is involved in customer education in the areas of food packaging safety and regulation.   He currently serves as a co-chair of the Food Safety Alliance for Packaging, which is focused on food safety through the supply chain (chemical manufactures, converters, and brand-owners), and the Adhesive and Sealant Council Regulatory Affairs Committee.  Prior to Bostik, Joe worked for Ashland and for Invista S.à r.l. in similar roles. 

In addition to food packaging, Joe has worked as a toxicologist and performed hazard assessments for EPA’s Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) and several REACH consortia.  His prior work has involved general toxicological support, new chemical registrations in the US (TSCA), China, Australia, Canada, and Japan. He has also served on various chemical panels and trade organizations, e.g., the American Chemistry Council’s Crystalline Silica Panel, the Formaldehyde Council Institute’s Science and Regulatory Committee, and the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association’s Environmental Safety and Health Committee.  

He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Spring Hill College and his Doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Louisville.
