Golnoush Abbasi

Senior Scientist, The Climate and Environment Research Institute NILU

Dr. Golnoush Abbasi's research interest focuses on challenges at the interface of policy and science concerning anthropogenic activities, and environmental issues. She has been working on scientific methodologies in the past decade to understand how consumption patterns and waste treatment processes lead to emissions of toxins, global environmental pollution, and the dissipation of resources. She is coordinating CE-RISE (Horizon EU #101092281), where they will design and test an integrated framework to effectively reuse, recover and recycle materials. The project will define criteria to assess reusable products and embedded components coupled with information on the environmental footprint of products and the socio-economic and environmental impacts of reuse, recovery and recycling processes to be integrated in products' digital product passport.

She leads the PLASTCYCLE project (RCN #303182) that identifies obstacles in the management of plastic waste. She is also leading REWARD (RCN #336617), establishing an integrated information system that enables data sharing among stakeholders, and increases the recovery and recycling of valuable resources from e-waste.
Overall, her research interests concern the challenges in the governance and management of waste that may lead to the emission of pollutants to the environment and the loss of valuable resources, such as CRM.
