Mercedes has a master’s degrees in industrial engineering from the University of the Basque country (Spain) and in polymer science and technology from the University of Manchester (UK). She joined the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in 2009 after 15 years of working in different industry sectors, including consumer products, capital goods and metallurgy. At ECHA, Mercedes works in the Risk Management Units that deal with REACH restrictions and authorisations. Since January 2023, she is the Team Leader responsible for the opinion-making phase in restrictions.
