Thomas Jakl holds a PhD in plant physiology and an MSc in Earth Sciences and is deputy director general of the DG Environment and Circular Economy and head of the Department for Chemicals Policy and Biocides in the Federal Ministry for Climate Action in Austria. He is Chair of the Governing board for the Horizon Europe Partnership for the assessment of risks from chemicals (PARC). Thomas held various policy positions, including Member of ECHA management board, Head of the EU Presidency Delegations for International Negotiations on Chemicals Policy during the Austrian EU Presidencies in 1998, 2006 and 2018, and Chair of the EU Council Working Groups on International Environmental Policy (Chemicals) and REACH. He is a frequent publisher of articles in the fields of science and environment related issues and EU-“Genius”-Award winner for Chemical Leasing.
