Biocides Symposium 2020

Marta works in Unit E4-Pesticides and Biocides in the European Commission's Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). She joined the European Commission in 2019.

Heike has worked in the field of exposure and risk assessment for biocides and other chemicals for nearly 20 years. She currently works as Senior Scientific Officer in the biocides unit at ECHA. Heike is the Chair of the BPC-Environmental Working as well as the Chair of the Ad hoc Environmental Exposure working group (AHEE) and also advises the Biocidal Product Committee on environment related topics.

Henrik has worked for the The Danish EPA for two years, first as a toxicologist performing risk assessments and since August 2019 as Deputy Head of Division in the Pesticides and Biocides team. Before joining the Danish EPA he was a senior consultant for twelve years providing guidance on BPR, REACH, CLP and preparing submissions relating to the BPR.

Hanne has a PhD in Microbiology from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. She started working as a Microbiologist for Jotun in 2014. She has been the R&D Manager for the Biology Laboratory in Jotun Decorative since 2017. Key responsibility in her job is support for all segments and units within R&D for selection and use of in-can and dry-film biocides in paints and coatings.

David has recently retired after 35 years in global legislative processes, and a wide range of experience of EU biocide committees, working groups and technical workshops. In addition to his recent role as Senior Regulatory Analyst in Chemical Watch he worked for just under 20 years at UK HSE (UK Competent Authority for Biocides) as well as 7 years in industry and 5 years as a consultant.

Charline has been working for the Ministry of Health in the Biocides service for 4 years where she is dossier manager and human health expert. For the past 2 years, she has also been involved in Endocrine Disruptor topics, such as assessment of active substance and EU products dossiers but also participation to the ED Expert Group, workshops on the Guidance for identification of ED and several e-consultations in order to gain and refine her experience as ED expert.

Since May 2018 Alfonso works at EFSA in the Pesticide Peer Review Unit in the mammalian toxicology group. Since 2013 he works in the area of Endocrine Disruptors and currently, he is responsible of the risk assessment of EDs. He was one of the authors of the EFSA-ECHA Guidance to identify EDs. Before joining EFSA, he has worked for almost 6 years at the European Commission, Joint Research Centre in the Chemical Safety Unit in the area of predictive toxicology.

Martijn is specialised in developing and implementing chemical management strategies with a focus on biocidal actives and product (including use of digital tools), advocacy/issue management, regulatory & toxicological (team)leadership, safety risk assessment, regulatory product compliance, sustainability and innovation support.

Has been working as a Senior Adviser/consultant to CHEM Trust since May 2019 with a main focus on endocrine disruptors (EDs). More than 25 years of experience with regulatory toxicology. Formerly chief adviser at the Danish EPA. Coordinator and initiator of activities under the Danish strategy of endocrine disruptors. During the last years focusing on the work with the establishment of criteria for EDs and identification and risk assessment of EDs. Seconded national expert at the European Commission 2014-15.

Silvia is a food chemist by training and holds a PhD in toxicology. After several years in the chemical industry with a focus on bioanalytics and metabolomics, she switched to scientific consulting in 2012. Responsibilities covered all BPR activities ranging from preparation and defence of active substance and product authorisation dossiers to project and task force/consortia management.

Lucas Kalkers started his career at the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture by implementing the Common Agricultural Policy. He moved to the biocides area ten years ago, managing the international registrations and intellectual property for a multinational enterprise. Lucas joined the secretariat of the Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Biocidal Products (Ctgb) for which he is a member of the Expert Group for Competent Authorities in Brussels. He is also appointed as regulatory advisor for the Netherlands at the periodic meetings of the Standing Committee on Biocidal Products, and as the alternate member of ECHA’s Biocidal Products Committee.

Karen Howard is Head of Biocides (Europe) in Exponent’s Health Sciences Center for Chemical Registration and Food Safety, where she provides strategic regulatory and technical advice for biocides and advises clients regarding the impact of biocides legislation on product regulatory status.

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy by Universidad Complutense de Madrid, specialty Biochemistry. Master’s degree in Toxicology, and Master’s degree in Methodology for Research in Health Sciences. She joined the Spanish Ministry of Health in 2007, where she has worked in the areas of biocides and plant protection products. She is currently responsible for the Review Programme in the Biocides Area, and participates in other activities of the Biocidas Unit. She is currently member of the BPC.

Adi has experience in preparing dossiers for registration of active substances and products. In the past for the Dutch authorities and since 2016 as a consultant. She was involved in developing guidance documents for EFSA and the commission. As expert at the authorities, she was member of the commission working group on guidance on botanical active substances.

Cristina studied Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, Portugal. She worked for several years in regulatory affairs for industrial and consumer goods business, where she gained experience in the EU chemicals legislation (REACH, CLP, biocides, FCMs, electronics, …) and in chemical legislation for other regions such as Latin American countries. She recently joined knoell as a Project Manager for the Chemicals and Product Safety Regulatory Affairs.

Siobhan joined Contec in April 2018 as a Regulatory Specialist primarily to manage BPR obligations and to provide support with other EU and global regulatory requirements. Prior to joining Contec Siobhan worked as a consultant for 8 years providing guidance and preparing submissions relating to the BPR, REACH, CLP and the Cosmetics Regulation, as well as training in areas such as IUCLID.

Dr Werner is a chemist and registered toxicologist with an over 20 years track record in hazard, exposure and risk assessments in various regulatory areas. In his present role as Head of Regulatory Affairs at Stockmeier, he is responsible for strategic and business development with a focus on biocides.

David is the Managing Director of Klarus Consulting Limited, which advises the biocides and biocidal products community on building and delivering safe and effective claims. David is also Chairman of BluTest Limited, a contract microbiology testing and development company.

Eléonore Mullier specializes in EU regulatory law and litigation. She advises clients who, whether based in the EU or not, come into contact with EU regulations affecting the placing on the EU market of their products. Eléonore's knowledge extends to the entire life-cycle of materials, from chemicals legislation (biocides, REACH, classification and labelling, POPs, PPPs, etc.) to product and waste legislation (CE marking, RoHS/WEEE, Ecodesign, medical devices, single use plastics, waste and end-of-waste). She also advises clients on the interface between these regulations and on cross-sectoral issues including the European Green Deal initiatives

Nathalie has 22 years’ experience in regulatory affairs, 8 in Plant Protection Products and 15 in the Biocide business. Among her past activities she has led the EU Regulatory department of a major biocides production company. For more than 2 years, Nathalie has been head of the EU Biocides group of CEHTRA.
