Alan Rae

Director, NYS Centers of Excellence and Advanced Technology

Dr. Rae has worked in the electronics, ceramics, nanotechnology and “clean tech” industries for over 40 years in the USA and UK, managing global businesses and technology development at startup, operating company, and corporate levels.

He is currently Director of the NYS Centers of Excellence and Advanced Technology at SUNY Buffalo (Materials Informatics, Bioinformatics and the Center for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences) and is a Board member at IncubatorWorks in Painted Post and Alfred NY, having previously been Executive Director and Co-Director. In 2017-18 he was Interim Director at the Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology at Alfred University where he led the successful 2018 center reauthorization for 10 year, $9.21M New York State funding.

Other voluntary positions include the Technical Committee of iNEMI, Board of Insyte Consulting, Advisory Council of Buffalo Manufacturing Works, and the Advisory Committee for the New York State Venture Fund.

Alan holds a B.Sc. Honors Chemistry from Aberdeen University (UK) together with a Ph.D. In Metallurgy and Engineering materials and M.B.A in Business Administration from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). He is a Chartered Chemist and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
