Senior Attorney, California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment

Corey N. Friedman is a senior attorney for the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), part of California’s Environmental Protection Agency. She provides advice on a variety of matters, but much of her work involves Proposition 65, California’s voter-approved right-to-know Act. She has worked on regulatory rulemaking and presently serves as OEHHA’s liaison to the Office of the Attorney General, which enforces Proposition 65.

Before joining OEHHA, Ms. Friedman worked for the California Department of Industrial Relations for about a decade, mostly at the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, commonly known as Cal/OSHA. In her last position, she was Assistant to the Chief for Policy and Program Evaluation, where she was responsible for legislation, other policy matters, and the program’s federal funding. She served as lead attorney for the development and implementation of emergency regulations regarding Covid-19 and California’s first-in-the-nation regulation addressing employee exposure to wildfire smoke. She has litigated both administrative and civil cases and began her career in private practice.

Outside of work, Corey spent nine years as an appointed member of the Legal Services Trust Fund Commission, the largest funder of legal aid in California, and was elected chairperson. She is a graduate of U.C. Hastings (now called U.C. Law, San Francisco) and Bowdoin College.
