The importance of understanding the toxicity of metals to protect people and the environment

Metals are used in almost every aspect of modern society including transport, energy, housing, healthcare, food and technology. Innovation continues to develop more useful metal-containing materials for wider and more specialised applications (for example, new energy technologies including solar cells, batteries and wind generation) and to produce complex electronic devices and networks.

However, with the increasing amounts of metals in circulation, it's essential that we're aware of and able to manage potentially hazardous properties, and that they're evaluated appropriately in order to protect people and the environment.
