Speaker profile
Annemie Houben
Dr. Annemie Houben holds a PhD in Chemistry from Ghent University, specializing in polymer chemistry. Since joining DESOTEC in 2019 as R&D Manager, she has led PFAS research and development, focusing on removal from gas and water using activated carbon, PFAS analytics, and destruction. She navigates PFAS legislation, including EU-POP regulation on waste and emission limits for air and water.
Annemie and her team, in collaboration with VITO, developed a method to measure PFAS on activated carbon, integrating it into DESOTEC’s waste acceptation framework for spent carbon to ensure POP compliance. She also contributed to the BBT studies for PFAS in gas and water in Flanders and investigates the fate of PFAS through the activated carbon reactivation process.
DESOTEC provides sustainable purification solutions for gases and liquids through mobile activated carbon filters. Under Annemie’s guidance, the R&D team’s expertise in PFAS removal, destruction and analytics has enhanced DESOTEC’s capabilities in this application domain.
