My name is María Isabel Cárcamo, coordinator of Pesticides Action Network LA (RAPAL) - Uruguay since 2002, member of IPEN since 2004, and member of the Steering Committee. I have dedicated my work to addressing critical environmental challenges through collaborative approaches and innovative solutions that conduct to policy changes, at both national and international levels.  

I am a teacher, ecologist, researcher and author and co-author of numerous publications and press articles on the impacts on health and environment on pesticides, POPs, mercury, and plastics.  

I have taken part in different negotiations and conventions related to toxic chemicals, Stockholm, Basel, Rotterdam, Minamata Conventions, SAIMC, and the Global framework on chemicals. Since 2022 I follow the Plastic treaty negotiation at the national, regional and international levels.

During the 4th Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Mercury (INC 4) Minamata Convention on Mercury, July 2012, I joined in the World alliance for mercury free-dentistry and lead the campaign to bring mercury free dentistry in the GRULAC region.
