Claudia Alfaro Cornejo

Head of the Legislative and Regulatory Department, Ministry of the Environment, Chile

I am an attorney specialized in Environmental Law, with an LL.M. in Environmental and Energy Law from New York University, and several Diplomas and courses in related subjects.  

I have vast experience in strategic advice in the assessment of projects in the Environmental Impact Assessment System, administrative claims, claims before the Environmental Courts, audits and incentives for compliance, implementation of the Chilean EPR Law, among others.  

Currently, I am the Head of the Legislative and Regulatory Department of the Chile's Ministry of Environment. I lead a team of 10 professionals specialized in different areas of Environmental Law: climate change, circular economy and waste management, protected areas and biodiversity, emission and quality standards, prevention and/or decontamination plans, green tax, etc.  

I am very interested in Circular Economy. Working at the law firm FerradaNehme, I collaborated for several years with the Circular Economy Roundtable of the Chilean American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile), and I currently teach in the Circular Economy Diploma at the University of Chile.
