Claudia Alfaro
I am a legal professional with a specialization in Environmental Law, holding an LL.M. in Environmental and Energy Law from New York University, in addition to multiple diplomas and certifications in related disciplines.
Over the course of my career, I have acquired substantial experience in providing strategic legal advice on the evaluation of projects within the framework of the Environmental Impact Assessment System. My practice has encompassed administrative proceedings, litigation before Environmental Courts, the execution of environmental audits, the design of compliance incentive mechanisms, and advisory work on the implementation of Chile’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law, among other areas.
At present, I serve as Head of the Legislative and Regulatory Department at the Ministry of the Environment of Chile. In this capacity, I lead a multidisciplinary team of 12 professionals with expertise in key areas of Environmental Law, including climate change, circular economy and waste management, biodiversity and protected areas, emission and quality standards, decontamination and prevention plans, green taxation, among others.
I have a deep professional interest in the Circular Economy. During my tenure at the law firm FerradaNehme, I collaborated for several years with the Circular Economy Roundtable of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile). Currently, I also serve as a lecturer in the Circular Economy Diploma Program at the University of Chile.
