Learn how to put risk assessment into practice
Day One will offer a comprehensive coverage of the basics of risk assessment, including what it achieves – suitable for those with little or no knowledge of Risk Assessment. Those attending will be able to understand the key data endpoints that comprise safety assessment and risk assessment and to see how the different disciplines fit together and link to exposure assessments (for both human health and the environment). Day one will cover chemistry, toxicity and environmental topics and will link these to the DNELs, ADIs, PNECs and routes of exposure. Real life case studies will be included as part of the group work to illustrate the concepts which are covered during this session.
Day Two will put risk assessment into practice. Trainees will look at factors that may influence testing methods, together with the justification of test waivers where laboratory work is not required to conclude a hazard and risk assessment. There will be some practical work – following a test programme through from start to finish using data from a real substance and the detail from the previous day will be put in to a real-life context.
Practical group work forms an integral part of this course and real-life examples will be used to illustrate key points, encouraging trainees to consider solutions to problems and to see the perspective of regulatory agencies and the concerns of environmental lobby groups.
After completing the course, trainees will:
- understand the process of risk assessment;
- understand the background of the science and exposure estimation used in CSR and Extended-SDS, helping you to decipher incoming SDS;
- be able to think about solutions to problems and see the perspective of regulatory agencies and the concerns of environmental lobby groups.
