A comprehensive understanding of green chemistry principles and their application within the EU regulatory framework
This course will explore the latest regulatory developments around sustainable chemistry, aimed at promoting environmental protection, human health, innovation and economic growth. Green chemistry can play a critical role in achieving these objectives. The course aims to equip the participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complex regulatory landscape of green chemistry in the EU more efficiently.
Objective:
The primary objective of this course is to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of green chemistry principles and their application within the EU regulatory framework.
There are three fundamental questions to be tackled by this course:
- What are the key EU legal acts governing chemicals and in particular sustainable chemical innovation?
- What are the new legislative developments on the horizon for green chemistry?
- What are the tools and resources available at EU level to support companies in this field?
Specifically, this course aims to achieve the following objectives:
- show the fundamental principles of green chemistry and its significance in promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact;
- understand the latest EU legislation and policies related to green chemistry, including REACH, the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR); and
- learn about tools and resources available at EU level to support green chemistry initiatives.

This course is designed for professionals and stakeholders involved in the chemical sector, including researchers, regulators, policymakers and industry professionals. It is also suitable for students and academics interested in advancing their knowledge of green chemistry principles, regulation and practices within the EU context.
The one-day online course will consist of a series of lectures and enough room for discussions facilitated by experts in the field of green chemistry and EU chemical legislation.
