  1. Key Regulations in Switzerland for Food Contact Materials (FCMs) & Food Contact Articles (FCAs) and Practical, Real-Life Examples & Case Studies of Achieving Compliance

    This module will explore FCM regulations in Switzerland. After defining what is meant by FCMs, we will examine the country’s key regulatory requirements and look at a compliance check for a printing ink case study. ).

    By attending this training course, you will learn: 

    • the amended (draft) Swiss Ordinance on Materials and Articles intended to come into contact with food (SR 817.023.21) – Annexes 2, 9 and 10; 
    • the current regulations concerning different types of FCMs in Switzerland; 
    • the process of removing Part B of Annex 10 on printing inks for food contact applications; 
    • Swiss positive lists: listed substances, specific migration limits (SMLs) and restrictions; 
    • case study: Compliance check for a printing ink formulation; 
    • case study: How to carry out a worst-case calculation (WCC) where experimental or theoretical (modelling) migration data is missing; 
    • which migration testing conditions are to be applied; and 
    • the steps, and the data requirements, for a new FCM petition/authorisation in Switzerland.
